TACKS, THE BOY DISASTER - "DOWN BY THE SHORE"

    MP3 "DOWN BY THE SHORE"

With so much music coming in and out of my ear holes it is really hard to be loyal to all these talented obscure bands. Once such band has been Tacks, The Boy Disaster. I first heard their song "Frozen Feet" way back in 2006 and fell in love. I have include songs from their first album/Ep Oh, Beatrice on several mixes over the years. They just became a band that I couldn't shake from my head. Their musc became like a weird sonic security blanket that just made me feel better. Thank goodness, back in 2006 I signed up for their newsletter and sometime in 2012 I got an email saying they were working on new material and were going to go the Kickstarter route to get it made. Sign me up. I helped kickstart the album and on Saturday May 11th I got a letter from the band with my download code to their new album Twelve Lion Paws. The wait was worth it! I really love the new album and I think it will soniclly keep me warm and cozy for many years to come. Thanks for coming back. ENjO!

NIGHT MOVES - COLORED EMOTIONS & LP STREAM

Genre: Classic Rock Tinged Indie Rock

The debut album from Minneapolis-based Night Moves.Night Moves [John Pelant (guitars/vocals), Micky Alfano (bass) and Mark Ritsema (multi-instrumentalist)] grew up together in the Twin Cities and spent their younger years rotating in and out of one another's musical orbits. The trio reconvened in 2009 to form Night Moves and began recording and building a fervent local following of fans and media alike.

The band joined producer/mixer Thom Monahan (Vetiver, Beachwood Sparks, Devendra Banhart) in Los Angeles by way of their first appearances at South By Southwest to put the finishing touches on the album, which the band had begun on their own earlier this year. - Domino Records

COOL RAINBOWS - "REALITY AND A CLUE" (STREAM)

Sorry for the lack of blog posts for those that actually follow this blog. August was a super busy month with lots of craziness at work, freelance and tons of travel. It didn't leave much time to blog. As I catch up with all the new tunes I will probably be making lots of short blog posts just to catch up. ENjO! the first of hopefully many to come.

LORD HURON - "TIME TO RUN" (MP3)

Sorry for the lack of uypdates. Life has been busy and I have been hard at work trying to get a July mix done before I head on vacay this week.

Genre: Gospel/Tropical tinged Indie Folk Rock

"Time To Run" - Lord Huron

Info: Big fan of the art direction for this album. I really love the take on vintage western movie posters/typography. The aesthetic really works for the sound of Lord Huron. On October 9, IAMSOUND will release Lord Huron's debut LP, Lonesome Dreams.

    CHEERS ELEPHANT - "LEAVES"

Dubbed, “Chew it up, Spit it out, Rock and Roll”, Cheers Elephant is a raw, rootsy, psychedelic pop rock quartet from Philadelphia, PA. Digging deep into three part harmonies and arranging songs that’ll make your dad’s toe tap, your mom’s hip shake, and your sister’s heart throb. With a live show channeling David Bryne, animal of the muppets, and far-out impulses equivalent to evangelicals speaking in tounge. - Facebook Bio. ENjO!

THE WALKMEN - "HEAVEN" (RADIO EDIT)

Really excited about this new album after hearing the title track. Sometimes I forget how awesome classic indie rock can be. No lo-fi, reverb, beach tinged tricks just good old indie rock. ENjO!

THE SHINS - "RIFLE'S SPIRAL" VIDEO

The Shins: The Rifle’s Spiral on Nowness.com.

Three sinister gentlemen, a magician and an enormous rabbit populate the fantastical landscape of Emmy-winning director Jamie Caliri’s video for “The Rifle’s Spiral,” a new track by Portland-based indie rock heavyweights The Shins. Sketching the short’s narrative from any lyrics that grabbed his attention, Caliri had free rein to let his imagination run wild, resulting in a surreal stop-motion animation. “I have always loved Edward Gorey’s illustration work and his influence is apparent throughout the video,” says Caliri. “Also, seeing Martin Scorsese’s Hugo three times subconsciously veered my thoughts onto the magic theme.” Founded in 1996 by singer-songwriter James Mercer, The Shins played Coachella Festival last weekend as part of a US tour in support of their grandiose fourth album, Port of Morrow. Featuring guest appearances from Modest Mouse drummer Joe Plummer and Wild Flag’s Janet Weiss, Port of Morrow took five years in the making after Mercer put the group on hiatus to become a father. Enthusing about the current renaissance in music videos after also making a 3D version of the film exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS, Caliri observes: “It's now more like the years before MTV, when music videos did not have a formula. You can be expressive and idiosyncratic.”

I like this song but I love this artwork. Is it a wizard being attacked by a mystic now extinct buzzard? I like how he's got him just by the toes.

LOWER DENS - "CANDY" & "ALPHABET SONG"

If Beach House are the east coast sun soaked dream poppers, than Lower Dens are the northwest coast rainy day rockers (in theory only, since both bands are from Baltimore). These 2 new songs from the album Nootropics are perfect for weather like it is today here in Brooklyn. Nootropics is out May 1st on Domino Records.

Just in case you're wondering what nootropics are, I provided a wiki link. Who knew? ENjO!
