KEEPYOURFACERADICAL 07/12 MIX

The mix is droppin' early this month due to my vacation happening next week. Their are some great songs on the mix with the highlight being the Gardens & Villa cover of "Gypsy" by Fleetwood Mac. It's one of my favorite covers ever! 

The mix art was inspired by the images below. I found this photo of the free diver a while ago and really like the intensity of the negative space. After the last mix art (scanography) I wanted to have one single iconic image with lots of saturated color. After I came across the image of the Nepon soda I knew I wanted to bite the color from it. I have also been waiting for an excuse to use a horror font but with reverse drips. The water concept actually makes it make sense. I photoshopped the divers head and hand to make him feel like he is swimming away from the turquoise slime. All in all, I feel like the cover has a sense of recreational doom (which is now my new band name). ENjO! the mix and the art, and have an amazing rest of July.

KEEPYOURFACERADICAL 06/12 MIX (1/2)

The artwork was designed from vintage Windsurf magazines that I purchased a while ago on eBay. Working from left to right clockwise: Epic smile, epic splits, epic tandem and epic air. Gotta love the 80's! Bad typography also inspired by the 80's. Doing bad 80's type is much harder than it looks. I wanted to make the type on each cover different but I just ran out of time and wanted to get the mix uploaded.

The mix turned out really great this month and heck, because their was a surplus of great tunes I will be making two mixes for June. ENjO!

Sorry this mix is a few days late but it went through lots of edits to even get it down to below 60 songs. The month of February was a pretty MEGA month for new tunes. I hope you like the mix I think it is the best to date. I would have wanted to spend more time on the cover, but I am currently working on lots of art for my first gallery show.

JULY 2011 BLOGMAIL MIX PART: 1 OF 2

 

 Just like I said with the last post, I would be making mini mixes on special occasions. Well, today is one of them with the holiday happening tomorrow. JUNE BLOGMAIL MIX 2011

The mix is coming out a bit early this month, boo, yea, whatever. Most of don't care, but I have a few followers that might lose their minds if I decided to stop doing these. I figured I already had 31 solid tracks and the art done since early this week so why not upload it today so people can let it soak in before the big holiday weekend. I hope you like the cover this month, I designed a couple different ones but everyone seemed to like the peacock one the best. Why have I never thought to combine peacocks and paisley before now? I might take out the type and do a limited run art print if anyone is interested??

Also, the rules have changed a bit. I will no longer be doing just one mix a month. I have been pondering this for a while and as of July you may or may not get more than just one mix a month. It really just comes down to that fact that i want to create more art than just one cover/theme a month. There could possibly be more mini mixes (probably nothing under 10 songs). But as of right now I have ideas for at least two for July. Better for you and more experimentation for me on the art front.

MAY BLOGMAIL MIX 2011

So the covers are a bit of a remix on the July 2010 covers.  I wanted to do something with vintage photography. I was on some weird French ephemera blog and came across this strange board game where there were 4 face (2 men and 2 women) and then there were smaller cards with various various eyes, noses and mouths. I got everything into Photoshop and then just experimented with the many disturbing combinations that came to life. I then added a ink dyed kaleidoscope texture to make them feel more modern. I hope you like them. I have already received two comments on the subway about them. People seem a little freaked out by their subtle disturbing qualities. I like them a lot and I think they are the most conceptual of all the blogmail covers I have done. Enjoi them and the mix!

JANUARY 2011 BLOGMAIL MIX

I got a pretty big mix this month. It almost came to 50 songs but I ended up editing a lot out at the last minutes. The covers (35 different ones) are based on late 70's early 80's skiing and typography. Plus, some pretty epic gradients!

MAJESTIC DECEMBER 2010 BLOGMAIL MIX

Let's face it, the Holidays can be...kitchy. All sorts of cheesy traditions and decorations that are fun but when you really look at them, they are pretty tacky. Thus, the cover was born for the December mix. I looked at what I had and hadn't done art wise for the mixes and I hadn't really poked fun at anything. So, this cover was designed with a collage of snow animals and a super tacky font that just screams soap opera. It says December in the most majestic way.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas and an ever more greaterer New Year.

NOVEMBER 2010 BLOGMAIL MIX

I found putting a mix together this month quite stressful. I would search and search and come up empty. I would say 50% of the songs were found over the Thanksgiving break. The cover artwork was contributed by Maris Turner. I asked him to draw a curly horned ram. I tweaked the colors a bit, but its definitely a Maris original. Enjoi the mix ya turkeys!
